The Subbaetic Mountains or Subbaetic System (Spanish: Cordillera Subbética or Sistema Subbético[1]) is one of the two main systems of mountain ranges that is part of the Baetic System in the southern Iberian Peninsula. It runs to the west and north of the Cordillera Penibética from Cape Trafalgar in Cádiz Province (including Gibraltar) across Andalusia and the Region of Murcia, reaching the Mediterranean Sea shores in the southern Valencian Community.[2] The highest peakes reach heights between 1,500m and well over 2,000 m.
The Prebaetic System is a subsystem of the Cordillera Subbética. The materials that compose the eastern sector were formed in a relatively shallow sea.[3]
